Our internship program gives you the opportunity to take your education out of the classroom, do hands-on work, learn important skills, and make a real impact. And, you may be able to receive course credit.

This year our priority campaigns are working to increase recycling and reduce waste by bringing the bottle bill to Maryland and protecting families from toxic chemicals in children’s products.

As an intern with Maryland PIRG you’ll learn key skills from building public support and working with the media, to lobbying and building coalitions.

Maryland PIRG is looking for 3 interns this fall semester: 1) Grassroots Organizer 2) Online and Media outreach 3) Research and Issue Expert

Responsibilities vary depending on which of the three internships the applicant interviews for, but generally include:

– Generating public support for our campaigns through petitions and online organizing
– Working with and expanding coalition partners
-Recruiting your own group of volunteers and managing this group, delegating tasks and setting goals throughout the semester
– Working with the media; specifically, planning and implementing at least one large-scale event (i.e. press conference, bay clean-up project)
– Coordinating and attending campaign and media events.
– Attending meetings with decision makers and elected officials and planning presentations for these officials (travel to Annapolis or Washington D.C. with your hiring Program Associate to attend these meetings is optional, but recommended)
– Learning how an organization is run and how a campaign is organized
