Are you a fan of public radio and quality journalism? Do you want to help make it happen at WYPR? Midday is the station’s flagship news and current affairs program, a one-hour live daily talk show with host Tom Hall that features wide-ranging conversations about politics, business, science, education, culture and community affairs. Midday is currently looking for Summer interns. You don’t need experience in public radio, but we do require a basic grasp of news judgment, plus research and writing skills. An ideal candidate would also be interested in the topics covered in Midday’s guest interviews: government, history, science, energy, environment, technology, business, and arts and culture.

We involve interns in most aspects of the program: researching and booking interviews, editing recorded audio, writing copy for hosts, participating in editorial meetings, pitching ideas, gathering tape, and reaching out to listeners on social media. The schedule is flexible, but we are looking for a commitment of 12 to 15 hours per week.
We’re looking for a creative and collegial person with a strong work ethic, the ability to work well both independently and on a team, and a dedication to fair, accurate, and compelling journalism. You can learn a lot working with us — and have a lot of fun, too.
Any questions? E-mail Rob Sivak, Midday’s senior producer, at rsivak@wypr.org or call (410) 235-1191.

APPLICATION PROCESS
The Summer internship starts in early June 2017 and runs through mid-August 2017.
E-mail your application to Midday@wypr.org by May 12, 2017. The subject line should read “Summer 2017 Internship Application.”
Please attach the following, each as a separate PDF or Microsoft Word document:
– Cover letter, no more than one page. (Please tell us if the internship would be for college credit) We encourage you to highlight any radio or social media work you’ve done.
– Resume, including the names, titles, telephone numbers, and e-mail addresses of two references.
– Two work samples. At least one should be a writing sample — we’ll accept news articles or editorial, creative writing examples, blog posts, or short research papers. We’re looking for clear and compelling writing and well-researched ideas. The other can also be writing, but we also encourage you to send us any audio, video, or multimedia work you’ve done. Please send an online link to your digital audio or video samples—don’t send them as an attachment.
