The National Park Service in partnership with the Living Classrooms Foundation are seeking an Intern to work on communication projects related to the Star-Spangled Banner National Historic Trail. The Trail spans 560 miles in Maryland, Washington DC, and Virginia, on both land and water. The route traces the movement of troops, both British and American, during the Chesapeake Campaign of the War of 1812. This is a temporary position and work will be performed from approximately mid-February to mid-June. The Trail is managed by Fort McHenry NM&HS, and most work will be carried out at the Fort in Baltimore City, Maryland. This position is funded by the Partnership for the National Trail System in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of the National Trails Act.
Hiring and Supervision: Successful candidates for the position of Trail Intern will be hired as members of the Living Classrooms Foundation via Friends of Fort McHenry and under the direction of the Chief of Interpretation, Fort McHenry NM&HS.
Location: Employees will work at Fort McHenry NM&HS in Baltimore, Maryland.
Days and Hours: Hours can be flexible to work with class schedule. 330 hours are available at $15/hour.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Hours will be 8:15 a.m. until 5:15 p.m. with a one hour lunch break.
Primary duties:
• Intern will assist with communications strategy development and implementation to promote the 50th Anniversary of the National Trails System, and awareness of the Star-Spangled Banner NHT. This will include updated the trails website, assisting with social media, and taking high quality pictures.
• Intern will work with park staff to present outreach programming at Trail sites to raise awareness and assist trail partner sites at special events.
