Position Title: Marketing and Communications Intern
Healthy Teen Network is devoted to making a difference in the lives of teens and young families. We are a national organization focused on adolescent health and well‐being with an emphasis on teen pregnancy prevention, teen pregnancy, and teen parenting. Healthy Teen Network is the only national membership network that serves as a leader, a national voice, and a comprehensive educational resource to professionals working in the area of adolescent reproductive health—specifically teen pregnancy prevention, teen pregnancy, teen parenting, and related issues.
Healthy Teen Network is seeking an unpaid Marketing and Communications (M/C) Intern to work 10‐20 hours per week, with a minimum three‐month commitment. The marketing intern will work out of Healthy Teen Network’s Baltimore, MD office and will assist in various projects related to Healthy Teen Network’s marketing, communications, membership, and annual national conference. This internship offers a great opportunity to gain hands‐on experience with a national organization in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.
The summer/fall of 2013 is a particularly exciting time for the Marketing and Communications department, as we will be designing and deploying a new website, using Drupal, and a learning management system, using Moodle and Adobe Captivate. There will be many opportunities for the M/C Intern to contribute to these deliverables.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist in the implementation of organizational marketing plan, in support of the organization’s mission, values, and priorities
- Assist updating and maintenance of HTN’s website and learning management system
- Assist in the implementation of online outreach strategy, through the use of social media tools,
including Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and YouTube
- Assist in development and dissemination of HTN products, resources, and reports
- Assist in the implementation of the strategic membership recruitment and retention plan
- Assist in the implementation of the exhibiting/advertising campaign, soliciting potential exhibitors, sponsors, and advertisers
- Assist in development and dissemination of annual national conference marketing materials
- Provide phone support to Healthy Teen Network members, as appropriate Handle special projects, as assigned
Education and Experience:
- Enrollment in an accredited university or college, in pursuit of a bachelor’s or graduate degree
- Some experience and interest in marketing and communications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Good organizational and management skills with attention to detail
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Knowledge and familiarity with the Internet and Web‐based resources, including social media
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic computer applications
- Knowledge and familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, preferred
- Positive, proactive, and personable team player
- Willingness to collaborate with staff and to help with a variety of programs and tasks Sense of
commitment and responsibility to the mission, vision, and values of the organization
- Interest in adolescent sexual and reproductive health issues
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may regularly be required to talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to sit and use hands. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee may be required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
