I. BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF INTERNSHIP
Catholic Relief Services (CRS) is the official international humanitarian organization of the U.S. Catholic community, working in 93 countries around the world. In that capacity, CRS also educates and mobilizes the Catholic community in the United States to act on their faith in solidarity with those who are poor and vulnerable around the world.
This internship is housed in CRS’ Programs and Resources Unit. This unit creates print and on-line resources and information for Catholic dioceses, parishes, universities, high schools, and other Catholic institutions in the U.S. to learn about CRS’ work, participate in programs like Rice Bowl and CRS Fair Trade and to advocate for international policies that protect the poor and vulnerable overseas.
The intern will assist with the CRS Resource Center, a place for ministry tools for prayer, formation and action with a global focus. Additionally, the intern will create content and schedule posts for a spring social media campaign using Catholic Relief Services Fair Trade Twitter and Facebook accounts. Although this internship is not housed in the Communications department, informational interviews with key Communications staff will be set up for professional development.
II. SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
The intern’s focus will include: 1) Updating, marketing, and creating content for resources.crs.org and 2) Designing, implementing and creating content for a Spring CRS Fair Trade social media campaign 3) Updating and creating content for crsfairtrade.org

1) CRS Resource Center website, content, and marketing management
i. Help design and implement an internal and external marketing strategy for communicating about new or timely resources in the CRS Resource Center
ii. Help to implement adjusting the way resources are tagged or categorized based on user feedback
iii. Monitor the site to help make sure resources are updated
iv. Write blog posts about new or existing resources

2) Economic Justice and Fair Trade social media and website communications
i. Create content for CRS Fair Trade Facebook and Twitter accounts in preparation for a spring social media campaign
ii. Copy edit and write blogs for the CRS Fair Trade website
iii. Analyze data from FT email campaigns
iv. Update and create content for crsfairtrade.org

III. PERIOD
The internship will correspond with the intern’s academic semester for Spring 2015. The intern will work 10 hours a week, or whatever is required by their academic institution to receive academic credit.
IV. LOCATION OF INTERNSHIP
The intern will be based in Baltimore, MD with some flexibility to work remotely.

V. FUNDING
This is a paid internship at 10.00 per hour.

VI. KEY WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
Supervisor- Resource Development Specialist and Economic Justice Program Manager/Officer will supervise depending on the project.

Internal – Programs & Resources Unit, Partnership, Training & Engagement Unit, Marketing & Communications, Web editors, Creative Services, Humanitarian Response Department

External – Will not interface directly with external partners, but will develop communication that will be read and used by diocesan partners and other Catholic institutions
VI. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• Proficiency with MS Office applications
• Working knowledge of international relief and development issues
• Experience with creating content for social media
• Familiarity with Catholic Church structures and Catholic social teaching
• Comfort with an open office environment
• Spanish language proficiency a plus
• Experience with and/or willingness to learn WordPress content management and Convio database/email marketing systems a plus
