The Communication and Media Relations Unit of the United Nations Framework
Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) is looking for an intern from October
to December 2008 and for January to March\/ April to June\/July to
September\/October to December 2009. The internship will be based in Bonn,
Germany, where the UNFCCC Secretariat is located.<\/p>\n
To support the team in strengthening outreach and communications for COP
14, which will be held in Poland in December and for COP 15 in Denmark in
December of 2009, the intern is expected to collect climate change-related
information on various countries, such as recent actions, domestic
policies, negotiation positions as well as the contacts of media and key
stakeholders, etc.<\/p>\n
Whilst the focus is on research activities, other projects could consist of
an analysis of information requests and media interviews, or an update of
the frequently asked questions (FAQ) section of the website, depending on
the interest and ability of the candidate.<\/p>\n
The intern may also be tasked with responding to e-mails, phone calls,
written correspondences to gain first-hand experience in dealing with the
public.
The candidate is required to be enrolled in a recognized university course
of study and to have:
* Completed an undergratuate University degree in communication,
international affairs, social science or related discipline, with work on a
degree equivalent to a Master in progress
* Basic knowledge of climate change-related politics.
* Knowledge of press and media organizations.
* Strong research and analytical skills.
* Strong organizational skills.
* Ability to work independently.
* Experience with databases, Internet environments.<\/p>\n

Please note that according to the conditions of UN internship program, the
internship is unremunerated. Any expenses, including travel and related
costs, must be borne by the candidate or his\/her sponsoring Government or
institution.<\/p>\n
The intern is also responsible for obtaining all necessary visas related to
his\/her internship assignment. Should the intern encounter difficulties
with the authorities in obtaining a visa, the UNFCCC will only provide
assistance in the form of an attestation confirming that the intern has
been accepted for an internship assignment with UNFCCC.<\/p>\n

(UNFCCC) has near universal membership and is the parent treaty of the 1997
Kyoto Protocol. The Kyoto Protocol has to date 182 member Parties. Under
