The position will report to the intern coordinator.<\/p>\n<p>The internship is unpaid and interns are expected to work in G&amp;F&#8217;s Baltimore\u00a0office for at least 8-10 hours each week. Some duties may be performed out of the office, but interns will benefit from the collaborative work environment.<\/p>\n<p><strong>General Requirements.<\/strong> Successful candidates will have willingness to learn and engage in government relations and governmental affairs, and:<br \/>\n\u2022 Have excellent writing, editing and verbal communication skills;<br \/>\n\u2022 Be punctual;<br \/>\n\u2022 Respect deadlines;<br \/>\n\u2022 Be a self starter and be proactive;<br \/>\n\u2022 Be able to work in a goal-oriented environment;<br \/>\n\u2022 Thrive in a high pressure environment;<br \/>\n\u2022 Be a strategic and creative thinker;<br \/>\n\u2022 Have extreme attention to detail.<\/p>\n<p>Due to the G&amp;F&#8217;s\u00a0promotion of the state\u2019s alcohol beverage producers, interns must be at least 21 years old.<\/p>\n<p>Students interested in applying should send resume and cover letter via e-mail to:<br \/>\nJanna Howley<br \/>\n<a href=\"mailto:janna@growandfortify.com\">janna@growandfortify.com<br \/>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Public Relations Internship<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Duties. Since G&amp;F is\u00a0a small organization, interns will be involved in all aspects of public relations.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Media Relations \u2013 Work with staff to build strong relationships with media, including:<br \/>\n\u2022 Developing a current press list.<br \/>\n\u2022 Developing news releases and alerts for to announce news and events.<br \/>\n\u2022 Creating new opportunities for editorial placement in local and regional publications.<br \/>\n\u2022 Meeting with media sales representatives to identify appropriate avenues for advertising and marketing the industry.<\/li>\n<li>Consumer Relations \u2013 Work with staff to manage consumer relations, including:<br \/>\n\u2022 Writing numerous monthly articles about Maryland wine, grapes and industry issues for a variety of publications.<br \/>\n\u2022 Developing new content for Marylandwine.com and create monthly e-newsletter distributed to 10,000+ Maryland wine fans.<\/li>\n<li>Event Management:<br \/>\n\u2022 Festival management \u2013 Assist in managing G&amp;F&#8217;s\u00a0weekend festivals throughout the internship.<br \/>\n\u2022 Special events \u2013 Assist in planning and management of special events sponsored by G&amp;F.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Governmental Affairs Internship<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Scope of Internship. While the G&amp;F\u00a0is a small organization, the legislative and regulatory issues it encounters are often high-profile, and life-threatening to the small producers\u00a0it represents. G&amp;F is charged with protecting the interests of its associations and their members, and thus, it must be vigilant during the state General Assembly\u2019s legislative session every January through April.<\/p>\n<p>Much planning goes into G&amp;F&#8217;s\u00a0work for legislative sessions. Planning begins in September in most years, though some larger issues are multi-year efforts. There are some years when G&amp;F\u00a0has issues\/legislation is has sponsored, and in other years G&amp;F\u00a0must simply keep watch to ensure no legislation is passed that would compromise the industry.<\/p>\n<p>Maryland alcohol producers\u00a0are regulated by the State via the Office of the Comptroller, and by the liquor boards in their residing county.<\/p>\n<p>Intern duties will include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Governmental Affairs\/Relations \u2013 Work with staff to manage government and public relations, including:<br \/>\n\u2022 Attending G&amp;F\u00a0Governmental Affairs conference calls (weekly during the legislative session).<br \/>\n\u2022 Developing single-issue policy statements for various audiences.<br \/>\n\u2022 Meeting with regulators and elected officials to further G&amp;F\u00a0issues.<br \/>\n\u2022 Attending legislative events to discuss issues with attendees.<\/li>\n<li>Member Relations<br \/>\n\u2022 Assist staffr in notifying members of regulatory or legislative issues.<br \/>\n\u2022 Updating our \u201caction center\u201d if members are needed to testify in Annapolis or attend important functions.<\/li>\n<li>Additional Experience the Interns May Gain<br \/>\n\u2022 Contract Negotiations \u2013 G&amp;F\u00a0revises event contracts annually.<br \/>\n\u2022 Association Management \u2013 attend G&amp;F\u00a0meetings and manage internal communications.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Students interested in applying should send resume and cover letter via e-mail to:<br \/>\nJanna Howley<br \/>\n<a href=\"mailto:janna@growandfortify.com\">janna@growandfortify.com<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Grow &amp; Fortify, LLC\u00a0seeks interns each semester to assist in its public relations and governmental affairs efforts to support its clients, including the Maryland Wineries Association, Brewers Association of Maryland and Maryland Distillers Guild.
