Intern will work cooperatively with the Marketing &amp; Communications staff to support fundraising efforts during campaign season and raise awareness about the \u201cneed\u201d in our community and UWCM\u2019s role in improving lives across the region.<\/p>\n<p>ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (include but not limited to):<\/p>\n<p>Weight (%) duties and responsibilities in priority order to total 100%:<\/p>\n<p>30% E-marketing<br \/>\nSupport UWCM\u2019s online marketing efforts. Utilize Constant Contact to develop email invitations and other email communications, working closely with Major Gifts Department. Update and edit website content on www.uwcm.org and www.emergingleadersunited.org.<\/p>\n<p>25% General Marketing Support<br \/>\nIntern will function as a member of the Marketing &amp; Communications team, working closely with Director of Marketing, Assistant Director of Marketing, Web Development Specialist and Graphic Designer. Assistance with projects such as event promotion, campaign promotion and other tasks will be requested.<\/p>\n<p>20% Media Relations Support<br \/>\nReview newspapers and other publications for mentions of United Way of Central Maryland, member agencies, issue areas and look for opportunities for UWCM to be \u2018part of the conversation.\u2019 Archive press clippings. Draft press releases and build media lists based upon target audiences.<\/p>\n<p>15% Copywriting, story telling and editing<br \/>\nAssist in the writing and production of UWCM materials. Write compelling stories that bring to life UWCM work for use on website, in email, in collateral materials and newsletters. Interview donors and volunteers as needed. Assist in proofreading UWCM publications to ensure they meet organizational style and branding standards.<\/p>\n<p>10% Constituent Relations<br \/>\nProvide support following UWCM direct mail outreach efforts to contact recipients and assess their satisfaction with UWCM and UWCM\u2019s communications. Also contact donors who request and receive incentives to thank them and assess their satisfaction. Gather feedback and present to Assistant Director Marketing &amp; Communications, and coordinate additional conversations when necessary. Manage follow-up process after donors return donor brochure postcard.<\/p>\n<p>ACCOUNTABILITY: In order to be successful in this position, the intern must consistently demonstrate competency in:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Meeting established deadlines<br \/>\n\u2022 Building cooperative relationships<br \/>\n\u2022 Writing and editing in accordance with AP Style<br \/>\n\u2022 Attention to detail<br \/>\n\u2022 Negotiating mutually agreeable outcomes<br \/>\n\u2022 Working as a team member<br \/>\n\u2022 Communicating effectively verbally and in writing<br \/>\n\u2022 Professionalism in the workplace<\/p>\n<p>INTERACTION (Internal and External):<br \/>\n\u2022 UWCM managers and staff, primarily the Marketing and Communications team<br \/>\n\u2022 Area businesses<br \/>\n\u2022 Human service agencies (executives, staff, service recipients)<br \/>\n\u2022 Volunteers<\/p>\n<p>QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS (required education, years of experience, skills and abilities): Individual with or seeking a bachelor\u2019s degree. Academic concentration in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Business or English.<\/p>\n<p>Candidate must possess self-confidence, integrity, active listening skills and organizational skills, and be energetic, friendly, articulate, focused, detail-oriented and creative. Candidate must have the ability to see a project through to completion.<\/p>\n<p>Skills include:<br \/>\n\u2022 Excellent written and oral communication skills, including public speaking<br \/>\n\u2022 Proofreading ability, particularly AP Style<br \/>\n\u2022 Ability to manage multiple tasks in an independent, fast-paced environment<br \/>\n\u2022 Social networking mechanisms<\/p>\n<p>PHYSICAL DEMANDS (sitting, standing, lifting, etc.):<br \/>\nThe intern is primarily seated while performing the duties of the position. There is also a fair amount of standing and walking. The hands are used to write, type, draw or handle small objects and controls. This position requires talking to individuals and groups, ability to hear others speak, visual acuity to design and implement layouts for events.
