The Office of Work, Life and Engagement at Johns Hopkins serves the university, hospital, and health system by offering a nationally-recognized portfolio of services to employees that they can utilize as part of their HR benefits package. Our programs and services focus on creating and sustaining a healthy mix of work, personal life, and academic pursuits—all in an effort to support each person’s need for work-life effectiveness.

The Communications Intern will help create and maintain content that focuses on work-life effectiveness, disruptive behaviors at work or in an academic setting, and being successful as a graduate student. Most of the content will be published online, however some may be used in print pieces.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities
• Research and write content
• Make edits to websites in content management system
• Enhance website usability and navigation
• Assist with monthly efforts to promote services, programs, and events electronically
• Track promotions for multiple projects

Necessary Qualifications
• 1-2 years writing experience for college courses
• Working towards a college degree in journalism, communications, or other writing-intensive major strongly preferred
Communications Interns will gain experience in:
• Pitching, researching, and writing content for hopkinsworklife.org, safeathopkins.org, and jhsap.org
• Tracking and scheduling content
• Viewing recordings of webinars for important points and future content development
• Creating an editorial calendar for news, events, fun facts, and images for a proactive approach to developing and posting content
You will work closely with the communications manager and have weekly meetings to provide feedback and discuss upcoming writing and content management assignments.

Applications Instructions
The position begins at the start of the fall semester and ends at the end of the semester with the opportunity to extend for additional semesters. You are expected to work 8-10 hours/week.
